A recently launched caregiver study, Understanding Caregiver Motivations to Increase Retention & Decrease Turnover In Home Care Agencies, studied various workplace motivators in an effort to reverse the trend of high turnover in HomeCare agency settings.

Part of the study analyzed twelve environmental caregiver job motivators including:

  • Company Reputation
  • Medical Benefits
  • Dental Benefits
  • Wages
  • Paid Training Programs
  • Consistent Performance Evaluations
  • Safe Working Environment
  • Clients "you like or care about"
  • Next raise schedule
  • Supportive Co-Workers
  • Access to Mentors

Caregivers were asked to rank the importance of each category in an ideal working environment including caregivers that are currently employed, unemployed, and caregivers looking for this first caregiver, HHA, or CNA job.

"It was apparent that although some motivators are consistent  across all three demographics, there are unique factors at play based on the employment status of a caregiver," says Brandi Kurtyka, Chief Marketing Officer of Chicago-based myCNAjobs. "Benefits are a bigger driver for caregivers seeking their first position while company reputation is a critical motivator for keeping and retaining seasoned talent."

Paid caregiver training programs, a safe working environment, and working with clients that you care about were fairly strong across all three groups.
