Job Description

Position Description:

 A Caregiver is a non-licensed member of the home care team who assists the client with the tasks of daily living as outlined in a written care plan that is established by a Supervisor and is kept in the client's home.  The Administrator and Client Service Supervisor/Alternate Administrator supervise caregivers.

·        The primary function of a caregiver is to provide services to clients and to augment the care given by family members in a clients residence or client care facility. Caregivers function under the direction, instruction and supervision of the Administrator and/or Alternate Administrator/Client service supervisor.

 

Working Conditions:

·        Clients homes and/or institutional settings and automobile travel. Potential exposure to infectious, communicable diseases, odors, blood, excreta and hazardous material

Personal Traits, Qualities and Aptitudes:

·        Must demonstrate skills and written/oral competency prior to working independently with a client; Sensitive to feelings of the client and their families. Mus tbe able to demonstrate flexibility by performing a variety of task, often changing one to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure; Good oral and written communication skills, Communicate effectively with people of all socioeconomic backgrounds, Display evidence of client advocacy.

Equipment/Tools/Work-Aids.

·        Ability to operate a smart phone and use an App to document through. Must have and maintain transportation to be used for work

 

 

Duties:

The duties of a Caregiver are to provide personal assistance services/personal care that are routine ongoing care or services required by an individual in a residence or independent living environment that enables the individual to engage in the activities of daily living or to perform the physical functions required for independent living, including respite services. The Personal care services can include one or more of the following:

A.  Bathing                   H. assist with self-administered medications        

B.   Dressing                  I. routine hair and skin care

C.   Grooming                 J. transfer or Ambulation

D.  Feeding                   K. health related services performed under circumstances that are defined as

E.   Exercising                    not constituting the practice of professional nursing by the Tx BNE.

F.   Toileting                  L. health related tasks provided by unlicensed personnel under the delegation

G.   positioning                   of a Registered Nurse or that a RN determines doesn’t require delegation 

H.  Maintain good Hygiene

I.    Safe environment

J.   Basic psychological and emotional support to client and family

Additional Job Duties:

A.  Report any changes in the clients mental or physical needs to the Administrator and/or Alternate Administrator

B.   Practice Infection control measures and standard precautions

C.   Provide accurate and timely documentation with all shifts

D.  Other duties as assigned

E.   Consistently promotes company values and Mission

F.   Completes required training

 Employee May Not: Provide any medical assistance such as wound care, pulling and administering medications, making medication suggestions. Change sterile dressing * Irrigate a colostomy or wound* Perform a gastric lavage or gavage* catheterize a client* care of a tracheotomy tube* apply medicated ointments* apply heat by any method* suction a client through a tracheostomy

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

A Caregiver must have a satisfactory work record, with experience as a caregiver preferred. Caring Hearts must be able to verify two work or personal references, and caregiver must complete the agency’s employment process. Must be at least 18 years of age. High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Must be physically able to perform the duties of the position. Must exhibit mature, responsible behavior, and understand the need for patient confidentiality. Must be able to communicate with client and carry out instructions. Must be able to read, write, understand and speak English. Must be able to follow direction and accurately report to the Administrator any change in client’s condition. Must maintain current credentials, including CPR, and TB Test as required by the facilities expectations. Must attend ongoing training when offered. Must have available reliable transportation to and from assignments. May be approved to drive client and/or run errands.
